He is a polish photographer living in Jeßnitz, Germany. he quoted that “When I was young, I fell in love with abandoned buildings,” “After I got a camera as a present, I started photographing the beauty there. I mostly photograph empty buildings with great staircases or interiors. I simply adore old decaying architecture, their patterns and textures – they remind me that everything is impermanent.”
His Abandoned series began in 2011 and is still evolving . Richter has broken into more than 1000 buildings in Germany, France, Belgium, Italy and Poland, and is helped by his network of friends who locate these building for him. his photos illustrate the decaying, cracking and overgrown sites as paintings of the buildings’ once human occupation, now overrun by greenery and debris. he is fascinated by their beauty and documents these abandoned spaces as ‘secret stories’ waiting to be uncovered, revealing the architectural ‘soul’ of the building through his lens. |
This is my Favourite image, I like the way that the photo is framed especially the fact that the cable cars are placed in the centre of the image and then the two building are on either side of the photo. Not only this, I also like the way that the sky is reflected on the building. if I could change anything about it, I would tilt the camera slightly up so that there's more leafs in the photo and there's less pavement below, or I would zoom in a bit more so that the leafs aren't there at all and the body of water is closer to the bottom of the camera.

Her photo book ‘knit club’ is easily distinguished by its worn looking off white colour. The book inside follows a narrative structure very loosely which was borrowed from ‘as I lay dying’ also from where she was originally inspired. Fro her project she had the chance to collaborate with a group of woman, This group is ambiguous making the book more mysterious and enchanting. Her photos range from decayed and derelict settings to portraits of woman with disguised faces. she builds the mood in her book through deliberate use of colours and the relationship that she built with the group to the point she became a part of it, she developed bonds with the women as they shared time, secrets and wisdom with one another. this book is only a small scale portal of a real community the exists in the real world bit is not controlled by it.
One of my favourite imagines from this book is this window, it has been taken over by nature, it shows parts of tings be don't uselessly see or appreciate. I enjoy seeing the state in that manmade objects are after being taken back one by nature. this photo is different from the ones in her book, it doesn't show people but the environment that they are surrounded by as the nature of the world chases them, they don't let it get to them. keeping sane from many of the chose happening. this photo tells a story, one in which you have to know the contexts and the story of the book to understand. |
He grew up in a small town in western Massachusetts then moving out and coming back to his now place of residance, his photo book reveals the struggles and everyday life that occurs in this town which is caught between aspiration and decline. He intended his work to ‘keep this place from sinking into the record as another industrial town devoured by a culture that no longer needs it’. As much as his book shows the poverty of the small town, it also brings a sense of optimism and not judgement. He brings awareness to the town through his book, whilst also photographing things around the city which may never be seen again by the human eye, things that may be demolished and reindustralised into a new and redeveloped town, one where poverty is hidden behind the fancy buildings and new industries although it still lurks around behind the corners. Never leaving from the originals residence hearts and their memories.
my favourite photo form this book shows the soposively starting construction on the town, however it looks trashed and abandoned, it makes the viewer question why it was left behind and forgotten, it makes us question whether this is what the fate for the rest of the town looks like. I also like this photo because it is chaotic but its neutralised by the colours in the photo, they don't let the photo get too crazy and too obnoxious. the trashed broom makes me question cheater someone tried to fix this before and then gave up. is the rest of the town unfixable like the broken pavement? |
